Journeyman
Requirements:
• Two years of practical experience in the trade and an Associate Degree or certificate of completion from a two-year program in the trade from an accredited community college or technical school.
• Four years of practical experience in the trade and 240 hours of formal vocational training in the trade.
• Five years of practical experience in the trade and 160 hours of formal vocational training in the trade.
• Six years of practical experience in the trade and 80 hours of formal vocational training in the trade.
• A Bachelor’s Degree received from an accredited college or university in an engineering curriculum related to the trade and one year of practical experience in the trade.
• Ten years of practical experience in the trade, verified by an affidavit from those who observed the applicant’s work in the trade.

Exam:     Statutory & Reg.: 30 minutes, 10 items; Electrician Portion: 3 hours, 60 items
Examination Fee:    $100 ($30 + $70)

Renewal:    Biennial, expiring two years from the last day of the month in which they were issued.
Renewal Fee:    $40
Continuing Ed:    3 hours – must cover Code Updates. Commonwealth of Virginia Board is still in the 2005 code changes, however will accept 2008 approved courses.
